Kin turns spent coffee grounds into fresh mushrooms, and turns the quiet cold-season months into a reason for people to gather. Run with Donne Nissà, it collects used grounds from cafés around Bolzano and packs them into growing buckets that women and children tend together while the community gardens rest for winter.

Strategy

Bolzano can feel institutional and hard to navigate, and the city's official programs tend to look the part: formal, bureaucratic, and easy to bounce off if you are new here. Kin was drawn to be the opposite. The whole system is made by hand in ink, from a wordmark that bends and sprouts to the illustrations that go with it. It should feel like an invitation from a neighbour, not a form to fill in. The program runs in winter, when the gardens close and connection is hardest to come by. Kin gives women and children something practical to make together, cheap to run and easy to join whatever language you speak.
